Keep the missionairies away!

There are still several dozen uncontacted human tribes living on this planet. These people have absolutely no knowledge of the outside world and our many poisonous religions and infectious diseases.

Recently the Brazilian government has published photos of a tribe in an effort to prevent their habitat from being overrun by loggers.

I should also hope that the Brazilian government restricts access to the tribe. I would hate for these people to fall victim to the likes of the monotheistic false gods. Or ANY other gods.

What are your thoughts on strip clubs?

What are your thoughts on strip clubs?
More specifically, what are your thoughts on the people that go to strip clubs?
Even more specifically, what about people that are in committed relationships that go to strip clubs?

Is it cheating? Before I give you my answer I'll push you to read Jackson Katz's book, The Macho Paradox. In the book Katz states that in a perfect world people could watch people strip and truly appreciate it as an art. He follows this by saying that the truth is quite the opposite. Often times people that watch others strip see it as something other than art. They see the stripper as a sexual object. A non-human object. The stripper is dehumanized and that makes it easy to do all sorts of vile and inhumane things. Neither Katz nor I say that most men are bad but my point is that some of us are very quick to dehumanize others for whatever reason.

Back to the initial question: I do think that strip clubs exploit their workers but only because the house makes a portion of the entertainers money. If strippers could run their own clubs or maybe even unionize I bet they could get more money, but I doubt that will ever happen.

As for the people that go to strip clubs, I don't care to speculate about the reasons that they go. I will say that I've been to at least 5 different clubs and it is sometimes an uncomfortable experience. It can and has been fun, speaking about times when I've gone with good friends, but I couldn't see myself going regularly. I'd rather go somewhere else and have a good conversation with someone.

If taken as a way to appreciate another's art than I don't see it as cheating. I object to the objectification and possible exploitation of another human being.

Leading to War

Leading to War is a website / film that chronicles the US Government's use of deception and misinformation that led to the 2003 invasion of Iraq, which has resulted in, as of September 2007, more than 1,000,000 dead Iraqis*. That number of casualties is most unfortunate. Please watch this film and see for yourself what transpired. Hindsight is 20/20 but we should be able to take from the film that the media and the government are never to be completely trusted, especially when it comes to legitimizing the use of military force.

View the film and learn more about how we were lead to war at:
http://www.leadingtowar.com/watch_online.php

You can download the movie at that link or you can download using a torrent here.

*The actual number of Iraq casualties is disputed but ranges from 100,000 to 1,000,000. See Iraq Body Count, Washington Post, Alternet, and Opinion Business Research for more information.

the Bible: Hilarity ensues

Read, and behold the word of god, unfortunately produced from the mind's of men (I mean MEN and not men and women because we all know the Bible was written by men and that Christianity was founded by men. Men were the ones in power at the time, 500-1500CE so this makes sense. Yes the Bible can be misogynistic and this would be the reason for that).

The Bible is full of absurdity, injustice, cruelty, violence, intolerance, contradictions, and other miscellaneous un-enlightened views. Taken as a historical text it provides an insight into the time that these stories were created.

The Bible is Absurd
Genesis
1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
1:4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
1:5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years
1:15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
Silly god created light before he created the things that produce light. Yes like you I'm confused with that logic.
Job
1:7 And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
The all knowing god had no idea where Satan had been all this time. He was surprised that Satan was still turning tricks.
Matthew
18:8 Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire.
18:9 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire.
Jesus advises his followers to mutilate themselves by cutting off their hands and plucking out their eyes. He says it's better to be "maimed" than to suffer the "everlasting fire." of hell.

The Bible is cruel and misogynistic
Genesis
3:16
Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
And so begins hundreds of years of justified oppression and violence towards half of the monotheistic population.
Leviticus
12:6
And when the days of her purifying are fulfilled, for a son, or for a daughter, she shall bring a lamb of the first year for a burnt offering, and a young pigeon, or dove, for a sin offering, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, unto the priest:
12:7 Who shall offer it before the LORD, and make an atonement for her; and she shall be cleansed from the issue of her blood. This is the law for her that hath born a male or a female.
I think that means it is sinful to bear children. In order to be rid of that sin one must kill poor little creatures to please god, because god enjoys that sort of thing.
Judges
19:22
Now as they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain sons of Belial, beset the house round about, and beat at the door, and spake to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into thine house, that we may know him.
19:23 And the man, the master of the house, went out unto them, and said unto them, Nay, my brethren, nay, I pray you, do not so wickedly; seeing that this man is come into mine house, do not this folly.
19:24 Behold, here is my daughter a maiden, and his concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth good unto you: but unto this man do not so vile a thing.
19:25 But the men would not hearken to him: so the man took his concubine, and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning: and when the day began to spring, they let her go.
19:26 Then came the woman in the dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man's house where her lord was, till it was light.
19:27 And her lord rose up in the morning, and opened the doors of the house, and went out to go his way: and, behold, the woman his concubine was fallen down at the door of the house, and her hands were upon the threshold.
19:28 And he said unto her, Up, and let us be going. But none answered. Then the man took her up upon an ass, and the man rose up, and gat him unto his place.
19:29 And when he was come into his house, he took a knife, and laid hold on his concubine, and divided her, together with her bones, into twelve pieces, and sent her into all the coasts of Israel.
19:30 And it was so, that all that saw it said, There was no such deed done nor seen from the day that the children of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt unto this day: consider of it, take advice, and speak your minds.
What would be the point of offering your daughter and your guest's woman to a group of men so that they may gang rape them? I'm sure god has a point in this but I couldn't possibly understand why someone would continue to believe in a god after reading these words. Consider it indeed.

Be sure to read ALL of the Bible, especially the highlights from the Skeptic's Annotated Bible. Only then could you appreciate it for what it really is. An old and mostly poor story. Free yourself from the chains of religion. Live well.

Save money by avoiding Cash Advances

Beware the cash advance!

Some credit card companies offer their customers the chance to use their credit card as an ATM card. This is called a cash advance. To be more specific a cash advance is a loan taken out against a line of credit or credit card, typically imposing higher-than-normal interest charges.
Investopedia says,
Often the interest charged on these loans is a fixed number of percentage points above the prime rate. Additionally, there is seldom a grace period in which no interest is charged. These two factors make cash advances more expensive than many other types of debt financing.
I say that a cash advance is a shady way for credit card companies to make a quick buck. I did the research and if I were to use a cash advance on my credit card I would be charged $10 for the initial transaction, and interest would immediately begin to accrue. Last time I checked (just now) my credit card company (CHASE) charges me 20.99% for a cash advance. One must keep in mind that 20.99% is compounded daily. I'm going to follow this example with some math so, prepare yourself.

Here is an example. I take out $100, deciding to pay it back after I receive my statement, lets say in 30 days. I would be charged $10 for the transaction, and I would be charged $1.91 interest at the end of the thirty days. So after thirty days I would have to pay finance charges of $11.91. Much higher than your typical ATM fee of $2-5. If I fail to pay the entire cash advance balance I would have to pay even more in finance charges. Were I to pay back the initial $100 ignoring the finance charges I would then have to pay $12.12 i n finance charges. After 60 days I would have paid my bank $12.12 for a cash advance.

Here is the formula I used:
where P is the initial $100, r is the annual interest rate, n is the number of times the interest is compounded a year (365), and t is the number of years (30/365).

Avoid using a cash advance at all costs!

Cut your cell phone bill in half!

Cut your cell phone bill in half!

...or by a third, or maybe just a fourth. In any case save some money by following any one of these suggestions:
  • Text messaging can be expensive. If you text too much opt for a plan that allows you unlimited text messaging or at least gives you some cushion. People text me like crazy so I'm forced to buy T-Mobile's 400 text message package. It saves me money. I tried canceling my text message service but they couldn't do that for me claiming its the primary method of contacting me.
  • Talking can be expensive. If many of the people you regularly talk to are on a specific network its time to make the switch to their side. Most (ATT, Alltel, Sprint, & Verizon) of the major service providers have mobile-to-mobile features aka in-network perks that allows you to talk to your fellow customers for free.
  • Myrateplan.com allows you to pick the perfect plan for yourself. This free web service will ask you for your zip code and whether you want to do a single-line, family-plan, or pay-as-you-go. In less than five minutes it will suggest different plans from different companies that have the features you want.
  • Pick a plan that has just enough minutes to hold you over each month without going over. Those overage charges tend to be pretty expensive.
  • Stay away from ordering your horoscope, wallpaper, etc from third party parties. Many of these companies continue to bill you each month.
  • Cancel or just don't sign up for those extra services. Do you really need to pay $7 a month more to insure your phone? Do you really need to pay $3 for that emergency road side assistance? Call a friend instead.
  • Dispute any and all inaccuracies. Check your bill each month.
  • Report lost or stolen phones, immediately!
  • Don't pay for 411. Use GOOG-411 instead. Dial 1 800 466 4411 and get all the information you could ever want, for free. You can even send a text message to GOOGLE (466453) - text help to 466453 for more information about using Google's free 411 service.
  • Unless you really use the internet on your phone, cancel it.
  • Ever thought about a prepaid plan?
That is my advice. Take it.

Make Your Laundry Better

Make your laundry better with these awesome tips from the Laundry Alternative Inc:
  • Suds & Cleanliness: When soap flakes were used, a lot of suds meant good cleaning performance. However, the way laundry detergent is presently formulated, this is no longer true. Unfortunately, many people are unaware of this, and use excessive amounts of laundry detergent.
  • Washing Time: Never set the washing time for over 10 minutes -- most detergents have done all the work they are going to do by then-- the rest of the time your clothes are just agitating in the dirty water. It may not seem like much, but you can save a quite a bit of money over time using this trick.
  • Water Temperature: Water temperature plays a key role in the washing process. Hot water offers the quickest, best form of cleaning, and should be used for the following items: Sturdy whites, colorfast pastels and light prints, cloth diapers and similar baby items, and heavily soiled clothes. Warm water removes wear wrinkles, helps reduce wrinkling in the washer, and minimizes dye loss. It should be used for permanent press, all colorfast dark or bright colors, nylon synthetics, polyester, acrylic and washable woolens. You may want to keep in mind that laundry detergents are formulated to clean best at temperatures above 60°F/16°C. Cold water may prevent sensitive dyes from "bleeding" minimizes washer wrinkling and saves hot water. It can be used for lightly soiled fabrics, and should be used to rinse all loads, regardless of wash temperature. However, due to detergent formulations, cold water does not clean as effectively as warmer temperatures.
  • Save on Drying Time: To save on the time spent running your dryer, especially for "heavy" items like throw rugs, diapers, etc., first run an extra "spin" cycle in your washing machine. Then, add a clean, dry, fluffy towel to your dryer with the wet laundry. This can cut your drying time by 25% or more!
  • Don't over-dry your clothes. If your machine has a moisture sensor, use it. Overdrying is also a leading cause of static cling.
  • Periodically inspect your dryer vent to ensure it is not blocked. This will save energy and may prevent a fire. Manufacturers recommend using rigid venting material, not plastic vents that may collapse and cause blockages.
  • Use the cool-down cycle to allow the clothes to finish drying with the residual heat in the dryer.
  • Dry towels and heavier cottons in a separate load from lighter-weight clothes.
  • Clean the lint filter in the dryer after every load to improve air circulation.
  • Drying a small load reduces the tumbling effect and consequently lengthens the drying time. Add several clean, dry white towels to speed up the drying of small loads.
  • Turn your jeans inside out, so they won't fade as quickly.
  • Most dryers have delicate permanent press cycles, which have lower settings to protect fabrics which might be damaged by high temperatures.
  • Don't overload your dryer, as it can result in excessive wrinkling.
  • Cut Down on Ironing Time: I've reduced my electricity used and time spent by removing my clothes directly from the dryer while they're still warm and laying them flat -- one item at a time -- on top of my washer until the whole load is stacked. Then, I take the entire stack to my favorite folding place. If I have to do something else and return to the stack, it's still unwrinkled and ready to be folded -- not ironed! Now I only iron a few things!
  • Prevent Button Repairs: To prevent buttons falling off clothes (and save time by not having to sew them back on), put a dab of clear nail polish on top of the threads of the button. It will strengthen the thread and make it less likely for buttons to unravel and fall off!

Reasons to not vote for Clinton or Obama: They are Democrat

Those cowardly Democrats won the majority in the legislature for the sole purpose of ending the Iraq occupation. If they have done anything, that surely has not been it. The following is found at Democrats.com:
On Thursday, Speaker Nancy Pelosi will force the House to approve $163 billion more of our tax dollars for the occupation of Iraq - nearly $100 billion for 2008 plus nearly $70 billion more for 2009.

We are outraged. This Democratic Congress was elected to end the occupation, not fund it forever.

On Monday, a new Democrats.com poll found an overwhelming 68% of Americans want to bring our troops safely home within 6 months - a significant increase from 54% last September. Support among Democrats increased 14% to 85%, while support among Independents increased 20% to 78%. Why is the Democratic Congress defying the will of the overwhelming majority of Democrats and Independents?

Each day's news underscores how disastrous the occupation is. April was the deadliest month for U.S. soldiers since last September. One in five Iraq and Afghanistan veterans - roughly 300,000 - report symptoms of PTSD or major depression. The V.A. covered up the fact that 12,000 veterans attempt suicide each year while under V.A. treatment. As Cindy Sheehan asked, "for what noble cause" are our sons and daughters suffering and dying?

To make matters worse, Bush continues to use our occupation of Iraq as a reason to wage a covert war against Iran that could quickly turn to a wider and even more disastrous war. We know the Iraq War "marketing" was timed for the 2002 election - if John McCain is behind in the polls, will Bush "bomb bomb Iran" as an "October Surprise" to keep Republicans in power?

On top of it all, as our economy tanks, we simply cannot afford to waste $163 billion more of our tax dollars for Iraq on top of the $562 billion we've already wasted and the $3 trillion overall cost, included tripling the price of gasoline.

It's urgent for everyone to call our Representatives today with a simple message: Not One More Penny for Iraq.

This battle is not impossible. On January 16, 42 progressive Democrats voted against the last $70 billion blank check. Most Republicans oppose Pelosi's bill because it includes some domestic spending, so a large bloc of progressive Democrats can defeat it.

Call the switchboard at 202-224-3121 or find your Representative's name and direct dial by entering your address on the right side here. Please report the results of your call here:

Use Heavy Duty Resistance Bands to exercise

I used heavy duty resistance bands during my workout today and it makes the exercises much more difficult. I specifically used them for squatting and bench pressing. It didn't necessarily make the lifts heavier (although I used less weight than usual) as much as makes them more difficult.

Here is a video of what I'm talking about

Make sure you pick up a pair to add a new dimension of difficulty to your workout. If you are a personal trainer (I am) you MUST add this to your repertoire. I bought mine off of workoutz.com and you should too. Here is the link to the workoutz.com product page. Live well.

Undocumented Workers Are Good for the Economy

As I've known for quite some time, undocumented workers are good for the Amerikan economy. This is because they work, pay a tax on their wages, do not qualify to receive any Social Security benefits, and spend at least a portion of that money on Amerikan goods and services.

I knew of a person that worked, by using a family member's Social Security card, but could not receive Social Security benefits, or any other benefits for that matter. This person was able to pay into the system but was/is not able to receive a pay out. You would think the Republicans would take greater action to support the hiring of undocumented workers, but I suppose they'll be happy with only hindering the work to improve the immigration or guest worker process.

Now the New York Times has an opinion about it:
Immigration is good for the financial health of Social Security because more workers mean more tax revenue. Illegal immigration, it turns out, is even better than legal immigration. In the fine print of the 2008 annual report on Social Security, released last week, the program’s trustees noted that growing numbers of “other than legal” workers are expected to bolster the program over the coming decades.

One reason is that many undocumented workers pay taxes during their work lives but don’t collect benefits later. Another is that undocumented workers are entering the United States at ever younger ages and are expected to have more children while they’re here than if they arrived at later ages. The result is a substantial increase in the number of working-age people paying taxes, but a relatively smaller increase in the number of retirees who receive benefits — a double boon to Social Security’s bottom line.

We’re not talking chump change. According to the report, the taxes paid by other-than-legal immigrants will close 15 percent of the system’s projected long-term deficit. That’s equivalent to raising the payroll tax by 0.3 percentage points, starting today.

That is not to suggest that illegal immigration is a legitimate fix to Social Security’s problems. It is another reminder, however, of the nation’s complex relationship with undocumented workers. Would the people who want to deport all undocumented workers be willing to make up the difference and pay the taxes that the undocumented are currently paying?

It is also a reminder of Social Security’s dynamism. As society and the economy evolve, so does the system, responding not only to changes in immigration and fertility, but also in wage growth and other variables. As such, it is adaptable to the 21st century, if only the political will can be found to champion the necessary changes. Those include modest tax increases and moderate benefit cuts that could be phased in over decades — provided the country gets started soon.

Impeach Cheney

Don't know why this hasn't happened yet. How could the case for impeaching the current vice president Dick Cheney be weaker than that for former presidents Nixon or Clinton, respectively? Cheney and his Pan-America advocates led this country to an illegitimate war, among other things.
  • Seventy percent of American voters think Cheney has abused his powers and 43 percent say he should be removed from office, according to a Nov. 13 poll by the American Research Group. Organizations, including the National Lawyers Guild, have called for the impeachment of Dick Cheney.
  • Under Dick Cheney, the office of the vice president has been transformed from a tiny acorn into an unprecedented giant oak. In grasping and exercising presidential powers, Cheney has dulled political accountability and concocted theories for evading the law and Constitution that would have embarrassed King George III.
  • “In this time, at this moment, Congress must stand for truth,” Wexler said in a speech on the House floor Monday night. “A growing chorus of Americans is calling for accountability. The response from Congress thus far has been silence and denial.”
  • Bush and Cheney are clearly guilty of numerous impeachable offenses. They have repeatedly violated the Constitution. They have transgressed national and international law. They have lied to the American people time after time. Their conduct and their barbaric policies have reduced our beloved country to a historic low in the eyes of people around the world. These are truly "high crimes and misdemeanors," to use the constitutional standard.
  • Cheney has purposely manipulated the intelligence process to deceive the citizens and Congress of the United States by fabricating a threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction to justify the use of the United States Armed Forces against the nation of Iraq in a manner damaging to our national security interests
  • Cheney purposely manipulated the intelligence process to deceive the citizens and Congress of the United States about an alleged relationship between Iraq and al Qaeda in order to justify the use of the United States Armed Forces against the nation of Iraq in a manner damaging to our national security interests
  • Cheney has openly threatened aggression against the Republic of Iran absent any real threat to the United States, and done so with the United States proven capability to carry out such threats, thus undermining the national security of the United States
  • Cheney led a campaign of retribution against whistleblower Joseph Wilson, including the outing of a covert CIA operative.
These are good reasons to pursue impeachment proceedings, but I can guarantee that unless Cheney publicly denounces Jesus the Republicans couldn't care less about anything he has done (I firmly believe that some if not many Republican officials fully support Cheney's actions), and thus an impeachment is unlikely.

Reasons to not vote for John McCain: Supports current administration

Again FactCheck.org is on top of things. A vote for John McCain will likely lead to more of the same:
  • increase in socioeconomic disparity
  • more military violence
  • less civil liberties
  • more poor economic decisions
John McCain voted in support of President George Bush 95% of the time. Read FactCheck.org's article for the rest of the info. Voting for him will likely continue the decline of the United States of Amerika.

Reasons to not vote for John McCain: Inaffordable Health Care

$5000 'tax credit' to purchase your own health insurance.
Where does that money come from? Who are the winners and losers?
FactCheck.org breaks it down:
Who saves money and who loses under the plan, depends on the tax bracket an individual or family is in and what their health coverage costs. Lower-income individuals could do better if they have health care through their employer. They'd pay a lower tax rate on those benefits than higher income workers. Those who would benefit most from McCain's tax credit are those who already buy their own private plans and don't receive tax benefits. Those who are uninsured may find the tax credit provides enough financial incentive to sign up for health care policies.
